It’s been a while since any member of Blink-182’s offered an update on the contentious state of affairs between founding member Tom DeLonge and the other two bandmates, Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus. Though DeLonge has his own solo material
to cushion the blow, it seems like he’ll finally, officially not be a
member of the pop-punk any longer, if the other two have their way.
Speaking in an interview to the Das Process podcast, NME reports that Hoppus remained optimistic. “We are right now going through what so far has been a friendly divorce with our former guitarist,” he noted. “Hopefully things clear up and it doesn’t get all managery and lawyery and all that and we can move forward.”
“Tom was my best friend for years and years,” Hoppus added. “The thing is, if you think about the people that you were friends with at the end of high school and the beginning of college… how many of those people are you still friends with? We’ve been in the same van and bus and airplane and backstage room and stage for twenty-something years.”
In other Blink-182 updates, their current touring singer Matt Skiba — he of Alkaline Trio fame — said in a separate interview last month that after his other band’s upcoming tour cycle concludes, he’d like to get in the studio with Hoppus and Barker to record a proper album as Blink.
“I think that’s a great idea and it’s something we have discussed,” Skiba told Alternative Nation in late April. “Playing songs I haven’t written with Mark and Travis is a blast, so to go in and create music with them would be amazing.”
Maybe this whole thing will end with a Mark Kozolek-esque “Blink-182, Suck My Cock” diss track by DeLonge. Cross your fingers, we guess?
