from Mark and Travis Barker on the blink-182 situation

We’ve all heard from Mark and Travis Barker on the blink-182 situation, but now Mark has interviewed Tom DeLonge’s current replacement, Matt Skiba, to see how he really feels about it. “I couldn’t be more excited,” the Alkaline Trio frontman enthuses. “As you know we’ve been rehearsing a lot and it just gets better and better and more and more fun.”

In the podcast, Matt also talks about having to learn the blink-182 songs for the band’s upcoming shows with A Day To Remember and at Musink Festival. “Tom and I have a very different guitar playing style. I had to kind of relearn guitar in a sense,” he says. “But it was a lot of fun. I’ve been a fan of Blink for a long time, I’ve known you [Mark] for 15 years or something? And I was a fan of the band before we knew each other. I knew a lot of the songs already just lyrically, and of course it’s a totally different thing when you’re playing the songs, but it was a blast.”
The musician adds that he was initially concerned about performing the blink-182 material because he had never played like that before – but that it’s now becoming second nature to him. “It really feels like a band – it feels like home. It’s great,” he says.
Matt also chats to Mark about his new solo album under Matt Skiba & The Secrets, re-learning Alkaline Trio songs, hiking and more.
After Blink-182 kicked out guitarist Tom DeLonge, we heard Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker share their thoughts on the situation many times. But now, we get to hear from DeLonge’s (temporary?) replacement, Matt Skiba, who is also frontman for the band Alkaline Trio.
Skiba joined Hoppus on the latest episode of the Hi My Name Is Mark Podcast, where the two spoke in-depth about Skiba playing with Blink. “I couldn’t be more excited,” Skiba said. “As you know, we’ve been rehearsing a lot, and it just gets better and better and more and more fun.”
Skiba continued, “Tom and I have a very different guitar playing style. I had to kind of relearn guitar in a sense—but it was a lot of fun. I’ve been a fan of Blink for a long time. I’ve known you Mark for 15 years or something, and I was a fan of the band before we knew each other. I knew a lot of the songs already just lyrically, and, of course, it’s a totally different thing when you’re playing the songs. But it was a blast.”
He finally added, “It really feels like a band—it feels like home. It’s great.”
